Conference Three Lead Battle

Posted Tuesday, December 15, 2009 by Paul Mundinger
Tonite's match is for the early Conference Three lead.  John Jay comes into Playland sporting a 3-0 Conference Three record and a 5-1-1 overall mark.  The Indians are no stranger to Rye hockey, as these two old "power league" teams have squared off in both the regular season and during the DII playoffs in recent years.

This year's Indian squad has strong goaltending shared between Mike Ott and Jake Petrillo, while the scoring comes from senior Scott Turecamo(7G/3A), junior Mike Skalaski (8G) and freshman Fraser Bostwick (2G/7A). John Jay slipped by Somers/North Salem 3-2 last Sunday.

Rye (2-0 in Conference Three and 3-1 overall) comes off a strong 7-1 win over the same Somers/North salem team led by senior co captains Paul Mundinger's natural hat trick plus assisi and Taka Katsuta's 2 goals and assist effort.  Junior Nick Rosenfield chipped in with 2 goals and classmate Aaron Rix had his best game of the season allowing only 1 goal on 19 shots.

Next up for Rye is a trip upstate this coming weekend for the Rome Free Academy Holiday Tourney to play perennial DII state powers Queensbury (Lake George area), Rome Free Academy (Utica area) and Williamsville East (Buffalo area).
