Tigers Spoil Garnet Christmas Party in 5-2 Win

Posted Monday, December 28, 2009 by Jim Powers
In front of a large and vocal crowd of Rye students and returning college fans, the Mamaroneck Tigers spoiled the holiday mood with a 5-2 win over the Garnets.  Playing without leading scorer Paul Mundinger, the Garnets were forced to juggle their lines and defensive pairings while facing the Tigers, currently ranked #3 in the NY State Sportswriters poll for large schools.  Rye is currently ranked #4 in Division 2, the small school division.

The Tigers quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead within the first three mintes forcing the Garnets to play catch-up.  The Garnets, with goals by Rob Holmes and Brian Powers, narrowed the gap to 3-2 early in the third period.  Unfortunately Mamaroneck was able to widen the gap to 4-2 on a bad rebound before sealing their victory with an empty net goal ending the game at 5-2.
