Rye Beats ETB! (update for Coach's quote)

Posted Friday, December 06, 2013 by Paul Deen

On Wednesday night at the Mount Vernon Ice Hutch the Rye Garnet’s opened their season by defeating the ETB Eagles 9 to 6 in an offensive dominated game.  Outshooting the Eagles 37 to 24, the Garnets scored first and never trailed, leading by two goals at the end of the 1st and 2nd periods. The Garnet’s power play went 1 for 5, while their penalty kill allowed no goals on 4 kills.

“Wednesday night's game yielded the result we were looking for, a win” said Head Coach Jason Friesen “the potential is very high for this team this season but there is plenty of work to be done. I am pleased with the effort and look forward to improving in our next game”.

Leading the scoring for Rye with a Hat Trick was Connor McGovern (4 points on the night). Adding to the scoring total the following all scored one goal in the victory:  Captain Cal Hynson (4 points), Captain Jack O’Brien (2 points), newcomer  Joseph Watanabe-Gastel (2 points), Sophomore Nick Berger, Sophomore Theo Bresolin, and newcomer Derek Mullane. The Eagles Chris Hagan had 4 goals on the night.

Despite being an 8pm game on a school night, Rye had a good fan base turnout to cheer on their school (the fan bus alone brought 25 students to the game).

The Garnet’s next game is this Saturday at 6.30pm at the Ice Hutch versus the Mount Pleasant Ice Cats. Come out and cheer them on!
