Garnets Lose to North Rockland 4-2

Posted Monday, December 23, 2013 by Paul Deen

The Rye Garnets were defeated by the North Rockland Red Raiders 4-2 on an unseasonable warm night at the Sport-O-Rama Rink in Monsey, NY this past Saturday night. Thanks to the Rye fans for a good turnout given the day, time, and distance (we may have outnumbered their fans!).

The first period produced one power play each, with the Garnets outshooting the Red Raiders  10-7, and North Rockland getting the only goal of the period.

The second frame had no penalties, and again Rye outshot North Rockland this time 11-8, both teams scored a goal, giving the Red Raiders a 2-1 lead after thirty minutes of play.

In the final period, the Red Raiders scored early to take a 3 to 1 one lead, but Garnets responded with a Connor Hatch goal with 4:34 remaining to get within one. Unfortunately, Rye drew a penalty (in this fan’s eyes the officiating was at best “inconsistent” on Saturday night) with  1:27  remaining in the game and the Red Raiders scored on the resulting power play to win 4-2.

As the stats show it was a very even game:  Rye outshot North Rockland  34-26, but the Red Raiders went  1-for-2 on their power play versus Rye going 0-for-1.  The first goal for Rye was pretty feed from Cal Hynson to Theo Bresolin, and the second goal was another beautiful pass from Connor McGovern to Connor Hatch.

The Garnets have a busy week, traveling 200 miles to Glens Falls, NY on Friday and to take on the Glens Falls Rivermen at 7:40pm, the following day they face-off against the Queensbury Spartans at 11:45am before returning to Rye for an eight day break.
