BIG Game THURS - Garnets Take on Rival Rye Town Harrison

Posted Tuesday, January 14, 2014 by Paul Deen

This Thursday January 16  at 9:00pm at the Ebersole Ice Rink in White Plains the Rye Garnets (4-3-1) collide against their cross town rival Rye Town Harrison Titans  (6-4-0). The Titans are riding a three game winning streak while the Garnets are coming off a big two win weekend.

Why are these teams rivals?  Obviously, this once a season game is a battle for local supremacy bragging rights. But more than that, the Titans are Coached by Rye High School teacher (and former Garnet player) Peter Thomas and his Assistant Coach Milton teacher Thomas Bailey who both were Assistant Coaches under the Garnet’s Head Coach Jason Friesen for a long time. Additionally, many of the players on both teams have played together in the past on other teams and now get to play against each other – will it bring out more in them? Finally, both are D-2 schools, and Rye Town Harrison (4-0-0 in league play) and RHS (2-0-1 in league play) are one and two respectively in the Conference III standings. With a win or tie against the Garnets the Titans will be guaranteed a playoff spot (the Garnets with 21 points currently need 11 more points to be guaranteed a playoff spot).

This looks to be a very intense game!  White plains is only 8 miles and  15 min away from Rye – come out and support your team at this important game! Let’s have more and louder fans at this rival game!
