Final Two Regular Season Games + Playoff Game

Posted Monday, February 10, 2014 by Paul Deen
Final Two Regular Season Games this Week  + Playoff Game Monday, February  17

Coming off a strong 3-1 win last week against local rival Mamaroneck Tigers  (D1) and an 2-2 OT  tie in an outdoor classic versus Mahopac Indians (D1) the Garnets (8-8-2) have their final two regular season games this week – two big challenges / measuring sticks.

Tonight, Monday February 10, at 6:55pm at Murrays Rink in Yonkers the Garnets take on the Scarsdale Indians  (14-3-0). The red hot Raiders have defeated the top D1 and D2 teams in their last two games;  stunning Suffern 3-2 in OT and crushing John Jay 10-6.

On Wednesday February 12 , the Garnets take on the team that defeated them in the D2 sectional championship game and eliminated them from the playoffs last year – the John Jay Cross River Indians. The game will be played earlier than usual at 4:30pm at the Brewster Ice Arena.

 Playoffs

The Garnets have already made the playoffs and will have a game on Monday February 17th  (more details to come on Friday).

Last Week: 2-2 OT Tie vs. Mahopac Indians

Last Thursday night in a rescheduled game from the snow day before, the Garnets faced off against Indians (9-8-2) at the OUTDOOR rink at Brewster Ice Arena. The smaller rink with variable lighting was a new challenge for the Garnets. The temperature at puck drop was 17 degrees Fahrenheit on a clear, cold, windless (thank goodness!) night but that did not stop the Garnet Fan Faithful from turning up and cheering their team on!

Mahopac scored first and took a 1-0 lead early in the first period. The Garnets tied the score in the second frame when Jack O’Brien scored, assisted by Will Hynson and Connor Hatch. Mahopac scored next midway through the third period to again take the lead. However a host of Indians penalties helped shift the momentum and Connor McGovern scored to tie the score, assisted by Connor Hatch (again!). A tense five minute overtime resulted in no goals.

Come out and support your Garnets this week! Only two regular season games left!
